When she returns home for a visit, she quickly grasps how the country’s capital has changed under President Ahmadinejad’s strict regime. Atena and her sister share the modest goal of having breakfast at a café, but Atena learns they can’t assume that eating a meal outside the house is safe, and ever-changing societal rules keep everyone on edge. When the sisters’ waiter is prohibited from serving Atena a simple cup of coffee, Atena breaks—and it’s soon clear she has been denied something much greater, and much closer to her heart.
